A downloadable asset pack
This planet generator asset uses six quads to form a cube which is then turned into a sphere using a distance tessellation shader.
Twelve textures (up to 2048x2048px in size) are generated in real time using a ComputeShader and applied to their respective faces. Generating the textures takes place in well under 1 second.
In the final product the player will be able to move seamlessly from space to surface using a combination of geoclipmaps and chunked LOD (both of these features are currently in development).
If there is any interest in using this asset pack I will eventually release it here.
